Waianae ASsembly of God Family
CHURCH HISTORY
Waianae Assembly of God has been established since 1987. Our senior pastors, Jeffrey and Barbara Yamashita, have been faithful servants to the community of Waianae for many years.
For 30 years our church has ministered to our community in a variety of ways. We have ministered to the homeless, in nursing homes, needy families, and to a number of different schools. Our church families do everything in their power to be blessing to others, and to build up the community of Waianae.
Today we need your help. We have begun to build our church building but are in need of more funding. Our desire is to use this building to be a greater blessing to our community and to build the Kingdom of God. Please join us and prayerfully consider donating to help us get our church project finished.
Detailed History of Waianae AOG:
Waianae Assembly of God began as a vision given to Pastor William E. Ah You of Palisades Community Chapel Assembly of God. In December 1986, the Waianae Outreach began meeting at the Waianae Recreation Center multi-purpose room on Friday evenings. An average of 30 people attended. Soon, meetings were also held on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
At the annual business meeting of PCC on January 23, 1987, the members officially adopted the name of Waianae Assembly of God for this outreach. Sister Stacey Lewis from Palisades headed the work at Waianae Recreation Center until the summer of 1987. In July of 1987, arrangements were made to rent the cafeteria at Makaha Elementary School for services. On September 6, 1987, Pastor Ah You installed Jeffrey H. Yamashita as pastor of Waianae Assembly of God.
In January 1989, property was purchased on Makaha Valley Road, in Makaha. However, in June of 1989, Waianae Assembly of God rented a building at 84-375 Jade Street in Makaha.
On September 14, 1992, Waianae Assembly of God was incorporated, and on October 25, 1992, the membership adopted the Constitution and By-Laws for the fellowship.
In July of 2004, Waianae Assembly of God moved from the building on Jade Street. We met at the cafeteria of Waianae High School from July 7, 2013- December 2020.
In January 2021, our very first church's building project was completed and we were able to begin our first services within the miracle building that God built.
As of February 20, 2021 our former senior Pastor Jeffrey Yamashita was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and by April 5, 2021, he was in the arms of our heavenly father.
On June 6, 2021, Pastor Abigail Eli was installed as lead pastor of Waianae Assembly of God.
We are excited about Jesus and about getting together with other Christian churches in the area for worship and prayer. We join with others, praying for Waianae High School and other nearby schools. We rejoice as we hear numerous testimonies of God's miraculous work in our church and our community. Jesus is Lord!
